ORR Loses to Nantucket in Penalty Shootout.
The Reds left everything on the field trying to end this in regulation. The chances were there and taken but Nantucket's keeper came up big to keep the Whalers in the game. Nick Coelho opened the scoring in the 24th minute when he took a pass from Matt Teefy and used his speed to beat the Whaler defense and let loose a blast that rocked the back of the net before keeper Brown had a chance to react.
In the 3rd minute of the second half, Whaler forward Chavez was left unmarked in the area and headed home the equalizer on a perfectly placed corner kick. The teams battled for the next thirty seven minutes trying to gain an advantage but neither team cracked. Brown for Nantucket came up big three times, stopping Coelho twice and Jon Zucco on 1v1 breakaways. ORR's Matt Beatty was equal to his peer when Nanatucket's forward Fee let loose a cracker that was destined for the back of the net. Beatty dove to his right and just got enough of a touch on the ball to parry it off the post and out of danger.
Following regulation the teams again played to a stalemate for two 10 minute overtimes. ORR had the better of the chances, but couldn't put this one away.
In the shootout, ORR missed their first two chances before Jon Zucco beat Brown cleanly. Nantucket scored on their first three which left the Bulldogs with a must score to keep this one alive. Sr. midfielder Nate Houston stepped up to the spot and blasted a hard shot to Brown's right. Brown guessed right, made the save and was immediately stormed by his mates for the celebration.
ORR ended the season with a 15-3-2 record. This was a tough loss for the boys who played good enough to win, but it wasn't to be.
Great year Bulldogs and feel good that even though this part of life is over you can always know that

Bulldogs Earn 2-1 Golden Goal Win Over Cohasset
"I'm calling the half after this play" the referee said as he passed the ORR bench. In "this play" Jon Zucco sent a hard line drive corner kick that found the head of Nate Houston for the game winner at the end of the first overtime.
Cohasset opened the scoring in the 28th minute on an innocent looking cross that keeper Matt Beatty had lined up for an easy grab. He took one step stumbled and fell backwards into his goal and watched helplessly as the soft cross sailed over his head.
Both teams played good defense and neither was able to control the midfield to mount any sustained attacks. The Bulldogs had their backs against the wall a few times during the regular season and they learned how to overcome that. They know how to manage a game and that paid off this evening.
Early in the second half, ORR was awarded a direct kick from 20 yards. Jon Zucco faked a shot left that got Cohasset's defensive wall to follow him. He touched the ball right and Matt Teefy took care of business firing a low liner into the back of the net for the equalizer.
The teams played even for the rest of regulation with neither able to solve the others defense. Overtime was a different story. The Reds came alive and went for the win from the opening whistle. They picked up the speed of the game and worked hard to keep the ball in Cohassets end. With time running out, Nick Cohelo took a pass from Noah Filloramo and worked his magic on the left side. Nick worked extremely hard to keep possession and broke free for a shot at goal that was blocked giving ORR it's fourth corner of the day.

ORR Ends NB Voc's Seven Year Home Undefeated Streak.
It had to end sometime and the Bulldogs of ORR were more than happy and ready to end the seven year home undefeated streak of New Bedford Voc. Jon Zucco scored two first half goals and the defensive game of ORR was up to the task of holding off Voc's all out second half onslaught for the 2-1 win.
An observer could see something was brewing by watching the Bulldogs walk from the bus to the field. They did not look like a high school team. Most over 6' and blond, wearing their black and red warm ups, walking with a swagger of confidence and pride in their colors, they very much resembled a German professional team.
At 19:38 Zucco took a pass from Matt Teefy and cleanly beat Voke's keeper Luis Carranza to the far post by ricocheting his shot off of a Voke defenders shoulder. Five minutes later, Nick Coelho sent a cross from the left that somehow managed to find Zuc in a den of bears for his second that stunned Voc forcing them out of their game plan and into a scramble for a comeback.
ORR was playing smart defense that produced good counter attacking opportunities. During one of those counters ORR made a series of bad decisions in one play that gave Voke the boost they needed to mount a ferocious attack. Those mistakes allowed Voc to easily pick off a pass and beat eight ORR players with one counter attacking pass down the left side. Felipe Dias beat his lone marker and sent a cross into the area that found Nick Oliveira wide open allowing him an easy header past a diving Matt Beatty. For the next 30 minutes Voc tried solve the Red's defense. To their credit Voc broke through a few times, but still had to shoot past Beatty minding the net. Matt did a masterful job turning back 9 shots, most of them bullets, in the half.
As a team, ORR again managed their lead by playing fast, hard and intelligent defense. The back four of Chris Hirrallel, Marc Gammell, Noah Filloramo and Boo Gaspar held their zone tight forcing Voc to settle for long shots from 20 to 30 yards out. Many were on target but two of them beat Beatty who had to rely on a good friend of his, the crossbar, to keep the Bears off the board. The biggest save of the day however came from Beatty's "best friend" of the day, midfielder, Colby Stabell. Nick Oliveira lifted a ball over the outstretched arms of Beatty that was headed for the open goal. Colby went to afterburners and cleared the ball out of danger just as it was about to cross the line. The team, fans and coaches let out a collective "woot, woot" and a double fist pump in Colby's honor. Teefy and Nate Houston took care of the midfield by shutting down the passing lanes that the Bears used so effectively in their first meeting.
In the final half minute of the match, Nick Coelho was sent nicely on a break away with only Garranza to beat. In his excitement, Nick tried to rip the net off the goal post, but his decision to blast his shot to the near post left him staring into outer space waiting for his wide shot to land somewhere in Acushnet.
Voc outshot ORR 18-6
Voc had 4 corner kick to ORR's none.
Voc forced Matt Beatty to make 11 saves while Garranza made 4
Voc scored 1 goal. ORR scored 2
The Bulldogs end the regular season with an 11 game unbeaten streak and a 14-2-2 record, good for second place in the SCC on point behind the champs, New Bedford Voc. Congratulations to Coach Andrade and the Voc squad.
The Reds now wait for the State Tournament draw that takes place on Thursday, November 3rd.

That's Everyone
The Bulldogs improved to 13-2-2 with a resounding 2-0 win over visiting Bourne. The Reds are undefeated at home and also have beaten every team in the conference, avenging an earlier 3-1 loss to Bourne. They also settled things concerning their other loss to Seekonk two weeks ago, with a 2-1 victory over them.
Today's match was without a doubt tournament quality play with ORR taking control early. Games are won with strong midfield play, and the Bulldogs got to a championship level with the play of Matt Teefy and Nate Houston. Houston's ball control and deft passing kept ORR in control allowing his mates to make penetrating runs that constantly put Bourne on their heels. At 13:17 of the first half, Nick Coelho settled a long pass from Houston, turned and pushed a perfectly weight back pass that found Teefy unmarked just outside the 18. Teefy left footed a first time shot that beat keeper Froman cleanly to the far post. Five minutes later Noah Filloramo found himself inside the area and tried to feed Max Houck who was waiting just inside the 18. The ball got past Houck who found himself facing away from the goal. Max took a step toward the ball, turned and snapped a high knuckle ball over the outstretched hands of Froman for the 2-0 lead.
The Second half started to see the frustration begin to eat away at the visitors. Things got ugly when Nick Coelho collided the Froman who let loose a howl that would make any Halloween werewolf proud. Bourne's central defender, Gabriel, took offense, charged Coelho and let loose a roundhouse punch that barely missed connecting. Fourteen minutes into the half, Bourne's defensive wing back Garcia drew a yellow card after a dangerous tackle and head referee John Santos recommended the teams take a timeout to settle down the players.
Bourne changed to a 3-4-3 to add more attack which provided an offensive spark that got them into a few dangerous positions in the final offensive third. ORR retreated to hold off the push and withstood the pressure easily, constantly forcing Bourne to make bad passing decisions and stymieing any creativity Bourne tried to muster.
Much credit has to be given to ORR's back four of Gammell, Hirrallel, Filloramo and especially Boo Gaspar who drew raves from his team mates after the game. It's only apropos that Boo would play a monster game, especially this time of year.
The Bulldog's travel to New Bedford Voke on Wednesday for a much anticipated 3:30 PM showdown of the giants. This one could be a cracker.

Zucco's Hat Trick Lead ORR To 3-0 Win Over Wareham
Click any photo for large. Permission is granted for use of any photos and text.
Jon Zucco scored one in the first half and two in the second to lead ORR to their twelfth win of the season. Wind was a factor in this one with the Red's having problems keeping up with the ball with the wind at their back. The second half saw Wareham suffer the same fate.
With the wind in their face, ORR took control of the match with deft passing, tenacious defense and full control of the midfield with the three Musketeers, Houston, Sherman and Teefy. The defense was spotty in the first stanza but recovered nicely in the second playing intelligent and fast. The speed of play of ORR that was lacking in the opening half, was the difference in the last 40 minutes. Chris Hirallel, Marc Gammell, Boo Gaspar and Ted Kassabian easily broke up any threat the Vikings managed to muster, and initiated counter attacks that constantly put the home team on their heels.
Up front, Nick Coelho did a masterful job creating more havoc for the Vikings defense with his retreating play and pinpoint through passes for his mate making runs out of the back. Today however was Jon Zucco's day.
In the 16th minute Zuc got control of the ball during a goal line scramble and knocked home the game winner from 8 yds. At 4:40 of the second half, after a halftime self evaluation ORR came out with the determination that got them into the tournament this early in the season. The combination passing of Houston, Teefy and Sherman worked their magic on the left side of the pitch and confused Wareham enough to free up Zucco to take a pass from Max Sherman and slot home his second goal. Eight minutes later, Nick Coelho and freshman Chris Muther combined to beat the Vikings defense on the right side to assist Zucco for his hat trick.
The Bulldogs host Bourne on Monday evening Oct. 24th at 6:30 PM, and will play to avenge the 3-1 loss they suffered early in the season.

Costa and Coelho Lead ORR To An 8-1 Romp Over Visiting Case
The Bulldogs (11-2-2), began the game lallygagging around the perimeter and paid the price when they gave up a goal to visiting Case a minute forty five into the match. This is the third game in a row that ORR has started slowly. A week ago, Dighton, Rehoboth hit the post in the first minute and Saturday evening, Fairhaven narrowly missed taking a first minute lead when their first shot at goal barely sailed over the net. For the next few minutes things looked bleak for the Reds. Ten minutes into the match Bulldog coach Erich Carroll called a time out and choosing his words wisely, motivated the team to play like they were trained and put this game to rest.
At 14:45 Matt Teefy took a cross from Jon Zucco and headed home the equalizer. Teddy Costa replace Nick Coelho and scored two goal in the following six minutes. Coelho returned to his position after Costa's second and four minutes later scored his first of two. He scored his second three minutes into the second half and was soon followed on the score sheet by Max Sherman, Zucco and Teddy Kassabian.
Andrew Hughes held down the fort nicely replacing Matt Beatty in net. Hughes came up big twice in each half redeeming himself for giving up the soft goal early. Hughes took control of his area and directed his defense calmly and together they allowed only five shots on net. ORR on the other hand peppered Andrews counterpart with 18 shots on goal.
After Case's goal, the Bulldogs gradually worked their way back into the match. They began running off the ball and increasing the speed of play moving the ball with combinations and direct passes over the visiting defenders. Robbie Magee took over midfield for the Red's in the second half and directed his mates with confidence and imagination, keeping Case on their heels and chasing.

Costa Leads Bulldogs to 2-0 Win over Fairhaven
Teddy Costa's two first half goals were more than enough to give Old Rochester their tenth win of the season. Fairhaven was unable to solve the Red's defense and were never a threat in this lopsided match.
Matt Teefy began the onslaught with a blast to the upper 90 that Fairhaven's Matt DeCosta parried away in the 8th minute. Fairhaven had many chances to in each half to make this one a blowout, but their touch left them and they had to settle for lots of almosts. Teefy, Zucco, Coelho, Sherman, Stabbel, Houk and Truesdale all had chances inside the six, but none were able to finish their tries.
Costa found the net at 29:46 of the first half during a goal line scramble that saw three different Bulldogs take stabs at the ball. Fairhaven's defense finally gave some daylight and Costa took advantage for his first goal.
At thirty eight minutes, John Zucco, intercepted an errant Fairhaven pass and beat all four Blue Devil defenders with a beautiful killer through ball that found Costa heading to goal at full throttle. Teddy used his body nicely to shield the defender and hit a perfectly placed roller to the far post for his second.
Midway through the second stanza, Fairhaven ran out of gas and ORR took advantage sending player after player for 1v1's to goal. None were able to capitalize this day but the runs out of the back and the pinpoint passes through Fairhaven's defenders were a joy to watch.

The Road Goes On Forever
ORR improved to 9-2-2 with a 2-0 win over Dighton/Rehoboth. D/R saw a golden chance in the first minute pass them by when Vasconellos' shot hit the upright and bounce harmlessly away. Both team played good possession soccer with D/R controlling the match early. Gradually the Reds took over midfield and started to get dangerous. Nick Coelho had two chances in the half that could have put ORR up by two early.
At thirty two minutes, Nate Houston took control on the right side and found a streaking Max Sherman overlapping toward goal. Houston laid off a perfectly paced pass and Sherman did the rest slotting home the game winner.
It was a battle for midfield for much of the contest with both teams taking turns controlling the ball. The difference in this was ORR was continually on the offense while D/R was happy passing the ball around on their own half of the field. The first 40 minutes ended with ORR holding a tenuous 1-0 lead.
At the opening of the second half, D/R was caught being a bit lazy when John Zucco and Max Sherman hounded the left side backs forcing them to give up the ball deep in their own end. Max Sherman had his shot blocked and it looked like it would roll out of bounds and out of danger. Jon Zucco had other plans, fought off two D/R defenders and fed a nice ball to a wide open Matt Teefy who let loose a cracker from 8 yds into the back of the net for the insurance goal.

Bulldogs Qualify For Tournament With A 7-0 Drubbing of Pope John Paul II
Seven different players scored for ORR who qualified for the state tournament with a convincing win over an outmatched Pope John Paul II squad who traveled to Mattapoisett from Hyannis. Coelho, Teefy, Sherman and Costa scored in the first half. The second half scorers were Trusedal, Beatty and Magee.
The Bulldogs travel to Dighton/Rehobeth on Wednesday with the intention of building momentum for the tournament and earning a high berth.

A Tale Of Two Tens.
In the first 10 minutes of the match it looked like ORR would win this one handily. The final 10 minutes saw the Bulldogs score two goals for a come from behind 2-1 victory over visiting Seekonk. In between the two tens it was a slug fest. Skills were put away and both teams resorted to hard hitting long ball play that looked more like Roller Derby than football.
The final ten minutes were "Coelho time". After a difficult game where Nick was frustrated by his first touch and the hard hitting defense of Seekonk he got his rhythm and began creating chances. His hard work and fast play paid off in the 30th minute when he took a free kick from Jon Zucco and fired home the game tying goal. Seven minutes later, Coelho found himself alone behind the Seekonk defense after taking a nice through ball from Chris Hirallel, and passed and slow roller that easily beat keeper Jake Sylvia who did not leave his line to cut the angle. That brought the fans out of their seats and his mates off the bench for a well earned celebration. ORR now stands a 7-2-2.
The game was also a game of two referees having one call a tight game and his partner letting everything go. The complains from the ORR staff went unheeded and culminated with a game ending injury to ORR midfield mainstay Nate Houston whose condition is being evaluated at press time.
Seekonk took a 1-0 lead at 17:08 of the first half on a long throw in that saw keeper Matt Beatty taken down by two Seekonk forwards allowing Jacob Findlay to knock home and easy tally inside the six yard box.
Coelho has a chance for his hat trick when Max Sherman sent a through pass beating the flat back three Seekonk defenders. Coelho out raced them and let loose a shot that keeper Sylvia managed to deflect out of danger.

ORR 2 Apponequet 0
Jon Zucco interview with Standard Times Sport writer.
Three days prior Apponequet was able to hold ORR to a 0-0 draw and the Reds were not happy about it. Today the Bulldogs played a match that had qualities above and beyond the expectations of high school play. Smooth, fast, confident and intelligent play took the wind out of Apponequet early.
The Reds dominated the midfield keeping the Apponequet defenders continuously on their heels. Matt Beatty enjoyed another quiet day in the nets while his opposite Demoranville was called upon again and again trying to keep his squad in the game.
Max Sherman battles for possession.
At 17:25 Nick Coelho took a through pass from game MVP Jon Zucco and let loose a cannon shot into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead that stood into the intermission. At 15:40 of the second half, Zucco found himself isolated with one defender 35 yards out after a quick outlet pass from Boo Gaspar . He pushed the ball ahead turned on the after burners and found himself 1v1 with the Demoranville. Zuc side footed a perfect shot into the lower corned for the 2-0 lead.
ORR worked their zone defense magically causing turnover after turnover by Apponequet, who ran out of ideas early and resorted to a long ball game. That made things easy for Beatty and company allowing them to close out the match comfortably.

Bulldogs Battle Apponequet to a 0-0 Draw.
The Reds played a smart, physical, fast game but could not finish in the final third and had to again settle for a draw that should not have been. "Bad first touchs broke down our offense and killed off a lot of threats that could have put this one away" said coach Carroll. "We played hard enough and fast enough but we did not execute enough" he said.
The Bulldogs out shot Apponequet 12-2 and the Blue's keeper Demoranville came up big to make some critical saves. Offensively, ORR continually frustrated themselves making dangerous penetrating runs and overlaps only to see the passes that were often too heavy roll harmlessly out of touch. They did fire off a few rockets high and wide and those that were directed at Demoranville, were blocked out of danger by his defenders.
Nate Houston, Robbie Magee and Jon Zucco were forces in keeping the attack moving for ORR. Chris Hirallel and Marc Gammell defended boringly efficient, stymieing any attack Apponequet tried down the middle of the pitch.
Hirallel had his chance at glory in the last minute when he let go a cracker from 25 yds that sailed just over the net and landed somewhere in Rochester.
The two teams will meet again Monday, October 3 in Lakeville. Kickoff is 3:30.

ORR Defeats New Bedford Voke 1-0.
Nick Coelho scored on a counter attack a 4:35 of the second half and ORR's defense stymied the Bears relentless attack and handed Voke their first loss of the season. Nate Houston outfought his Voke counter part, won the ball and found Coelho isolated with one defender. Coelho beat his man and let loose a rocket that was caught in the net before Voke's keeper Garranza had a chance to react.
Brendan Gaspar, Chris Hirallel, Marc Gammell and Noah Filloramo continually broke up New Bedford's attacks and when the Bears did get behind them, keeper Matt Beatty turned potentially dangerous forays into routine through balls. Beatty was called upon to come up big, but none bigger than when he threw his body to block a potential cross from the end line that would have given Voke it's best chance at a goal with less than two minutes on the clock.
Early in the second half Beatty parried a blast, from Voke's go to shooter Carvalho, over the crossbar then out jumped the Bears forwards to smother the ensuing corner kick to end the biggest threat of the half. Beatty's defensive back four continually broke up Voke's long passing game, winning high, low and through balls. There were plenty of mistakes caused by the high pressure offense they faced, but they all helped each other professionally with good pressure, cover and depth. Ian Gray entered the match late in the half as a fifth defender and his fresh legs and size offered strength to back line and made things much more difficult for Voke.
The midfield quartet of Max Sherman, Nate Houston, Jon Zucco and Matt Teefy dug deep to keep the speed of the game just over the reach of Voke Tech. That pressure paid off in the final 20 minutes forcing Voke to commit numerous unforced errors that broke down their attack. The midfield was rested at times with quality play from Max Houck, and Robbie Magee. Nick Coelho and Colby Stabell kept Voke's defense honest with penetrating runs and kept the pressure on the Bears when they tried to break out of the back. Teddy Costa and Chris Muther spelled Stabell and Coelho successfully and both caused problems to the back line of Voke.
At the final whistle, pandemonium broke and all of the Bulldogs rushed to congratulate their keeper Beatty.

Bourne Overpowers Bulldogs
The Bourne Canalmen came out of the gate charging. They constantly beat ORR to the ball, made penetrating runs off the ball and defended with passion. They parlayed that desire into a 3-1 drubbing of the Bulldogs.
The teams settled for a 0-0 halftime score only because of the outstanding play of keeper Matt Beatty and his best friend, the cross bar. The highlight saves were a point blank shot that he parried for a corner in the 16th minutes. Nine minutes later Beatty again was called upon to save a long distance bullet that he managed to get a hand on to send wide for another of Bourn's 9 corner kicks. ORR did create some chances during the half but the finishing was weak and when they got good shots off, the Bourne defenders were in position to block away any danger to their net.
The Canalmen were able to smack the Bulldogs around and off the ball much to easily and at times dangerously. The officials after a few warnings finally sent Bourne's top defender to the sidelines with the games only yellow card.
Bourne got their first during a scramble in front of the net that left Beatty exposed when his defense not only failed to clear the ball, but also left Bourn's #11 unchallenged to pop home and easy goal. In the 17th minutes, ORR again gave so much room and time that Bournes #10 was able to line up and fire a looping shot from 30yds that beat keeper Beatty easily to his upper right corner. In the 24th, #10 was again left unmarked and unchallenged for and encore goal from the the same spot and and the result was again to Beatty's upper right corner of the net. "I never expected this" said ORR coach Erich Carroll. "We are a much better team than this game showed".
With thirteen minutes remaining ORR found their game and began to press Bourne. Jon Zucco was left unmarked in front of the net and gave the Bulldogs some energy and hope. Two minutes later, Ted Costa forced an errant back pass, out hustled Bourne's defense and gaining a 1v1 chance to goal. Costa scooped a nifty shot that beat the keeper high, but he put a little too much on it and the ball floated harmlessly over the net.
The Bulldogs did have one last chance with three minutes remaining when Matt Teefy sent a near perfect cross to a charging Max Sherman who arrive a half a step late missing an opportunity to head home a shot inside the six.
This game was a chess match and the difference was ORR was too slow to hold their shape under the pressure of Bourne. Two defensive hesitations cost ORR goals that shouldn't have been and those errors were the difference in this one.

ORR On A Mission
Click any photo for big
Old Rochester turned a 3-0 halftime lead into a 7-0 rout by games end against Pope John Paul II high school in Hyannis Port, MA, on Cape Cod. The Reds out shot PJP II 28-2 and saw 7 different players score. Max Sherman, Nick Coelho and Colby Stabell notched first half goals. In the second half, Matt Teefy, Jon Zucco, Teddy Kassabian and Teddy Costa each scored.
The Bulldogs are 4-0-1 since their opening day 2-1 loss to Seekonk and have outscored their opponents 25-2 in that span.
During the pre season training the team set a goal of not only qualifying for the state tournament, but making a run for the title. It's a lofty goal but the players are on a mission to see how far this journey will take them.

Bulldogs Roll Over Wareham
ORR outshot the Vikings of Wareham 26-3 scoring five first half goals before adding two more in the second stanza en route to a 7-0 rout, improving to 3-1-1. Max Sherman continued his scoring blitz when he knocked home his first at the 6:50 mark. Five minutes later, Sherman timed Jon Zucco's low driving corner kick to head home his second goal. Sherman added an assist when he beat two Wareham defender down the right side and sent a near perfect cross to Matt Teefy who headed his first of two goals to the far corner.
Teefy opened the second half scoring when he rose high above the Viking defenders to flick in his second of the match. Orr continually frustrated Wareham with their high pressure defense, while covering all the passing lanes, forcing the Vikings into multiple turnovers.
In the eleventh minute, Nick Coelho took a neat through pass from Jon Zucco and fired a low shot beating keeper Russle to the far post. Ted Costa and Matt Beatty closed out the scoring for ORR late in the game.
The score could have been much more lopsided if not for Wareham keeper, Russle. He made three point blank saves on Colby Stabell and ORR also misfired on more than a few "sitters" in front of Russle's net.
The Bulldogs travel to Hyannis on Thursday for a 4PM match vs Pope John Paul II.

Sherman's Two Strikes Lead ORR to a 6-1 Win Over Case
Max Sherman
Max Sherman scored twice during ORR's first half five goal barrage over the Case Cardinals in Swansea. Colby Stabbel, Nick Coelho and Matt Teefy added a goal each to end this one early. The second half saw both teams substituting freely. The bright spot for Case was #10 Mark MacKenzie who let loose a cracker from 25 yards that keeper Andrew Hughes, who had replaced Matt Beatty at the half, no chance at saving.

Bulldogs Settle For a Disappointing 0-0 Draw
Saddle up for Fairhaven
The Blue Devils used their field advantage to bunker in and absorb the waves of ORR's attacks. Max Sherman, Nate Houston, Nick Coelho, Matt Teefy and Teddy Costa combined for plenty of shots at goal, but keeper Matt DaCosta was only called upon to make five saves. Fairhaven's defensive back four took a few hard shots to the body when Max Sherman and Nate Houston let loose a few rockets from outside the 18.

Teefy Leads Bulldogs to 5-1 Win Over Dighton Rehoboth
Matt Teefy, lead ORR with two goals.
What a difference a few days make. Matt Teefy scored in each half to lead the ORR Bulldogs to an opening day victory over a very strong Dighton Rehoboth squad. Things looked bleak and the team was in the dumps after dropping the season opener to Seekonk on Friday. Today, a different team took to the field. ORR played fast, smart and pressured D/R into turn over after turnover.
Early pressure by Colby Stabell created a scramble in front of the D/R net and Jr transfer from Fairhaven, Nick Coelho, stuffed home ORR's first goal 1:45 into the match. At the 8 minute mark, ORR earned a free kick from 20 yds. when Coelho was taken down on a break away. Nate Houston picked his spot and calmly bent his shot into the upper 90 for a 2-0 lead.
Nick Coelho
In the 25th minute, a lack of pressure on the ball allowed D/R to string together three passes that freed up their #10 for a cracker of a goal from 35 yds. Placed perfectly and hit with power, keeper Matt Beatty could only watch the ball sail into the back of the net. Five minutes before the intermission, Matt Teefy scored his first on a perfectly placed strike that mirrored team-mate Houston's earlier goal, into the opposite upper 90.
The second half saw a bit of scrappy play from both team resulting in a yellow card warning to ORR forward Alden Truesdale. Thirty minutes into the second half, ORR was awarded a corner kick and Nate Houston sent a driving ball across the box of D/R. Matt Teefy skied head and shoulders above the defense and headed home his second goal and the clincher for the Bulldogs. Jon Zucco finished the scoring out hustling everyone to knock in a rebound that barely eked over the goal line.
The players are adjusting to the new system of play and are working hard to improve their game little by little.
The defensive back four of Noah Filloramo, Brenden Gaspar, Chris Hiralall and Marc Gammel held Dighton Rehoboth to 7 shots at goal and giving keeper Matt Beatty and easy three routine saves, day in the net.
Noah Filloramo directing the defense.
ORR depth showed when subs Ted Kasabian, Robbie Magee, Max Houck and Teddy Costa and Evan Lacombe entered the match and kept the quality and pace of play high keeping D/R on their heels.

Oh and One
ORR lost their season opener to Seekon 2-1 yesterday afternoon. The Bulldogs dug themselves a hole early giving up goal on a weak cross less than a minute into the match. Max Sherman out jumped Seekonk's defense to head home a perfectly place cross from senior team mate Nate Houston to tie the game in the 28th minute. Seekonk scored on a second half corner kick to seal the win.
Their play was spotty for most of the game and the players got themselves into a funk that they could not shake. The Reds pressured Seekonk heavily in the final ten minutes scratching and clawing for the draw, but it was too little too late. The coaching staff assures everyone that the lack of spunk will be addressed before the next game on Monday vs a very strong Dighton -Rehobeth eleven.
Next match: Monday, September 12 3:30 at ORR.
