The Reds played a smart, physical, fast game but could not finish in the final third and had to again settle for a draw that should not have been. "Bad first touchs broke down our offense and killed off a lot of threats that could have put this one away" said coach Carroll. "We played hard enough and fast enough but we did not execute enough" he said.
The Bulldogs out shot Apponequet 12-2 and the Blue's keeper Demoranville came up big to make some critical saves. Offensively, ORR continually frustrated themselves making dangerous penetrating runs and overlaps only to see the passes that were often too heavy roll harmlessly out of touch. They did fire off a few rockets high and wide and those that were directed at Demoranville, were blocked out of danger by his defenders.
Nate Houston, Robbie Magee and Jon Zucco were forces in keeping the attack moving for ORR. Chris Hirallel and Marc Gammell defended boringly efficient, stymieing any attack Apponequet tried down the middle of the pitch.
Hirallel had his chance at glory in the last minute when he let go a cracker from 25 yds that sailed just over the net and landed somewhere in Rochester.
The two teams will meet again Monday, October 3 in Lakeville. Kickoff is 3:30.
